The ‘Night fthe Museums’ is here and now!

Happy Birthday Palazzo Barberini!

On 11 and 12 May, the Galleria Nazionale di Arte Antica in Palazzo Barberini celebrates its 60th birthday a few days early. In fact the gallery was opened to the public on 21 May 1953. The state acquired this structure form the noble Roman family in 1949 for the purpose of turning it into a large national museum. The complete re-opening of the gallery, thanks also to the contribution of the “Il Gioco del Lotto” lottery, is the final part of the full rebirth of the museum which includes 34 exhibition rooms with works from the 11th to the end of the 18th century. Piazza Trilussa fountain is undergoing restoration

A good news for art lovers, the Acqua Paola fountain of Piazza Trilussa is undergoing a deep restoration, the ‘door’ to Trastevere deserves the hope, stolen from the verses of his poet. This travertine fountain was built by the Borghese Pope Paul V in 1613, originally located in Via Giulia, later on transported across the river, in line with Ponte Sisto on the other side. The Trastevere fountain will be wrapped for almost a year during this renovation. Decorative parts degraded or vandalized will be restored and cleaned.
